ISTC Annual Conference and the Independent Authors
by (Unknown)

The Independent Authors are self selected from the membership and share a common interest in that they are contractors or undertake freelance work. They are therefor often working on their own. Giving mutual support and encouragement is an important aspect of this group. The annual conference is an important focal point for all members and the IA’s in particular. This year’s conference was excellent at fulfilling this aim of letting them meet with each other, meet fellow Institute colleagues, as well as existing and potential clients. In addition to this there was a highly informative programme of speakers telling us of the development and software tools that are being used in our profession.

William took the opportunity to co-ordinate a stand for The Independent Authors Special Interest group as an integral and important part of the ISTC. The stand also provided a market place and focal point for those members who are often working on their own to gather and for conference delegates to collect details about possible service providers.

Within the group, the most common means of communication is through the rather impersonal medium of email. Through their email discussion group, all members were invited to participate. William organised a table and used his own display boards and designed appropriate headers. Individual members provided their own display material. If they were not able to be present he offered to set up any material posted in place.

Independent Author membership is open to all members of the ISTC who are freelancers or have an interest in freelance work: if you are one of these you are welcome to join us.
